Puncture type lightning protection fittings

● Overview

With the insulation transformation of power lines, traditional designs have become another challenge for power systems due to the inherent lack of lightning resistance in insulated lines, making it difficult to withstand direct or induced lightning strikes. The emergence of puncture type lightning protection fittings has solved this problem, as they are easy to install (without the need to peel off the insulation layer). The principle is to install the hardware on the insulated wire near the line insulator. When the lightning overvoltage exceeds a certain value, a short-circuit channel is formed, and a continuous power frequency arc burns on the lightning protection hardware to protect the wire from burns. Puncture type arc prevention fittings consist of three parts: puncture electrode, grounding electrode, and insulation cover. Among them, the appearance of the puncture electrode is shown in Figure 1
